To keep kids and adults reading when daylight decreases and temperatures drop, the library offers its Winter Reading Program to light up the season. This year’s program will begin Monday, November 16, and run through the end of January.

The program includes a reading incentive program with cool prizes and a chance to win attractive grand prize bundles, as well as a number of free special activities. Details are listed at warrenpl.org/winter.

The Winter Reading Program’s first big event will be a celebration of the SOKY Ice Rink’s 10th season, which we will cheer for at a Frozen-themed party Friday, November 20, between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m., at the SOKY Center pavilion. Families are invited to the ribbon cutting at 4 p.m.,  a storytime with Olaf at 5 p.m. There will be games galore and visits with our favorite Ice Princesses AND the one and only Santa Bob! No registration is required. Event activities will be free, but ice skating requires paid admission.

There will be free character storytimes at the Ice Rink again in December and January, as well as other special activities, like Santa visits and Grinch events in December.

WCPL encourages folks of all ages to read and visit the library throughout the year by providing experiences and activities that encourage the imagination and invite exploration. The Winter Reading Program has helped fill  the time during holiday breaks since it was first hosted in 2009 and has become fixture in the system’s mid-school-year offerings since that time.

Starting November 16, be sure to grab an activity / reading log at any library location (or download one from the website) and attend one or many of our special programs to make this winter one to remember!
