The library on State Street first opened in 1956. The current two-story facility has undergone numerous additions and renovations since that time.
The first floor houses a centrally located check-out area adjacent to the audio-visual collection. A reading garden, children's computers, and an easy-reader non-fiction collection can be found just outside the children's activity room. The Help Desk and fiction collections for all ages are located nearby. Also on the ground floor are the Porter Cafe Gallery and the Conference Room. As part of our Art at the Library program, the Porter Cafe Gallery, in addition to being an informal place to have a snack, read, relax, or access the Internet, offers local artists an opportunity to display their work. Art is rotated every month and local artists are encouraged to call for information. The conference room, also on the main floor, is available for public use.
The second floor houses nonfiction and reference materials, Internet-accessible computer workstations with desktop publishing capabilities, study carrels and the magazine / newspaper collection.
